Name of facility Hachiman-jinja shrine (Shirahata Hachiman-jinja)
Overview The enshrined deity is Hondawake-no-Mikoto. Although it is uncertain when it was founded, this shrine is said to be one of the legends of the Oshu subjugation by Minamoto-no Yoriyoshi and Yoshiie, which has remained in various places in Adachi. It is that when Minamoto-no Yoshiie crossed the Sumidagawa River, the white flags were put up on both banks of the river to mark the place. The shrine is associated with this story. After that, it began to be believed as a sub shrine of Hikawa-jinja shrine in Senju-Nakacho (a auxiliary shrine that enshrined the deity which has deep connection with the head shrine). There used to be along the Daishi street, but in 1908 it was moved to the current location after completion of the main building. One of Senju Seven Lucky Gods, Bishamonten is enshrined in this shrine.
