Name of facility Ogen-ji temple
Overview This is one of the two temples of Ji sect in Adachi, and is called Nishijimasan Senun-in Ogen-ji temple. It is said that the former Tendai sect was converted to Ji sect by the highest disciple of Ippen Shonin, the founder of Ji sect. The principal image is the standing statue of Amida Nyorai with Kannon Bosatsu and Seishi Bosatsu on both sides. The city's oldest temple gate built in 1637, the two stone lanterns engraved with 1654 and the city's oldest existing death register have been registered as Adachi cultural properties. A sutra mound, what seems to be made in the Muromachi period, was found at the site of the former temple area in May 1879. A cylindrical sutra container, Gokorei bell, Chinese old coins as well as Kabutobachi helmet which is presumed to be made in the late Heian period, were dug up on the mound. The helmet is called "star helmet" as it has a star mark, and is currently owned by Tokyo National Museum.
