Koyakoroku-jinja shrine

Name of facility Koyakoroku-jinja shrine
Overview The temple is located in Nishiaraihoncho due to the opening of Ogubashi-dori, but it is the village shrine of the former Koya-cho (current Kohoku 4-chome). The enshrined deity is Omodaru-no-Mikoto, and it is said to be founded 300 years ago. In the Edo period, it was called Dairokuten. However, due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the early Meiji era, the name was changed to Koroku-jinja, shrine because Dairokuten was another name of the Buddhist deity, Takejizaiten, and the enshrined deity also changed its name to Omodaru-no-Mikoto. The large Shimenawa rope in a dragon shape hanging on the torii gate is also called Jakazari. It has been made and dedicated before the annual festival by local worshipers since about 50 years as a substitute for the plastered dragon attached to the ridgepole of the former main building of the shrine built in 1914. The precincts have been renewed and have no traces of the old days, but the stone lanterns and guardian dogs built in 1901 have been left.
