Japanese tea always makes the heart feel at ease. Why not go to a shop where you can find delicious Japanese tea during the new tea season?
[Shops introduced in this article]
Tea Master Okumuraen
Mr. and Mrs. Okumura are both holders of the most prestigious tea judging technique in the Japanese tea world. In addition to running the shop, they are also active in a wide range of fields, such as holding seminars at local elementary and junior high schools as Japanese tea instructor leaders and full-time Japanese tea advisors. They are tea specialists who are highly regarded in the Adachi Ward area.
The teas sold at the shop mainly come from Morimachi, Shizuoka Prefecture, which has long been known as a producer of high-quality sencha, but also from other famous tea-producing areas such as Sayama, Yame, and Kagoshima. There are about 25 varieties in stock at any one time, including products that have been blended to take advantage of the unique characteristics of each tea producing area, and teas grown in a single farm.
The cafe "Yuyo Sabo" at the back of the store serves a wide variety of Sencha, Gyokuro, Hojicha, Genmaicha, and more. They also hold Japanese tea classes where you can learn how to brew tea and other knowledge about tea. It has an established reputation for providing hints about the depth and deliciousness of Japanese tea for both beginners and regular tea drinkers.

You can choose from three different regions for your sencha tea, and the first brew will be made by his wife, Keiko. A pot is also provided, so you can make the second brew yourself. You can add hot water as many times as you like, but it is generally best to only make it to the third brew.

"Mori no Megumi" from Morimachi, Shizuoka Prefecture, is characterized by its fine taste and aroma. Tea from Kagoshima Prefecture, which has a sweet and savory taste, is a popular product on par with Shizuoka tea. Why not try it when the new tea is available?

Tea House Kobori Shoten
It is a few minutes walk from the nearest bus stop, Senju Sakuragi. The shop is on the first floor of a traditional house that still retains a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere. The location is easy to miss as it blends in with the residential area, but there are long-established public baths and university campuses in the surrounding area, and the main landmark is Motojuku Shrine, which is one of the shrines on the Senju Seven Lucky Gods pilgrimage.
The shop is run by Mr. and Mrs. Kobori. When you step through the green noren curtain on the eaves, you literally feel like you're visiting someone's home. "Compared to specialty shops, we only have a few products. Instead, we want to carefully convey the characteristics of the tea producing areas we handle, how to brew it deliciously, and the charms of Japanese tea," says Mrs. Kumiko. They decided to open a shop after being impressed by the depth of Japanese tea. Furthermore, the couple both agree that they want people to drink delicious tea every day, so they mainly sell teas that can be enjoyed casually and for everyday use. You can also sample the teas, making it a friendly tea house that makes you want to drop in anytime.

"Yame tea" is characterized by its mellow sweetness. Also available for 594 yen (50g). "Sayama tea" is finished by firing, a method unique to the Sayama region, and has a sweet and rich flavor. Also available for 650 yen (50g). "Shizuoka tea" has a rich aroma and mellow flavor, making it a great gift or for a special occasion.

This ice cream, which does not contain any artificial flavorings or colorings, is just as popular as tea. It is made with carefully selected ingredients such as stone-ground first-grade tea leaves from Kyoto Prefecture, adzuki bean paste from Hokkaido, milk, strawberry, and mango, making it very satisfying.

Perhaps it's the warmth of the wood that makes you feel like you're in the café's concept of "returning to your natural self." It's a space that makes you want to calm your mind and sip some tea.
