Shichimen-jinja shrine

Name of facility Shichimen-jinja shrine
Overview Shichimen-jinja shrine situated in a quiet residential area is the only shrine in Adachi City. It enshrines Shichimen Daimyojin (Shichimen Tennyo) in the center, Inari-shin, Ukanomitama-no-Mikoto on the left and Shichimen Daimyojin with guardian gods on both sides on the right in the main building. Shichimen Daimyojin is a guardian deity of Minobusan Kuon-ji temple which is the head temple of Nichiren sect, and also a god of Mt. Shichimen towering to the west. According to legend, people lived in Takumi-shinden believed in this god as the god of easy delivery and nobody died in childbirth in Takumi. In the Meiji period, it was called Inari-jinja shrine, but after that, it came to be called Shichimen-jinja shrine. There is a record that the ancestors of the Ashikawa family donated the site of the shrine, and the family also paid the annual tribute and taxes. It shows the shrine to have a relationship with the Ashikawa family, who was a former vassal of Takeda clan and developed Takumi-shinden (current Minami-Hanahata 3-chome East, near Takumibashi, etc.).
