Teishokuya Kaachan (a diner)
Among the standard set meal menus, the most popular are the fried chicken and the ginger pork. The five large chunks of fried chicken make for a substantial portion. The staff all laughed and said that the marinade was a trade secret, but they did tell us that they use doubanjiang (chili bean paste). The chicken is fried to a deep golden color, and when you bite into it, it has a spicy kick that's addictive.
The ginger-fried pork shoulder has a slightly sweet flavor. "The trick is to cook it quickly so the meat doesn't get tough. It seems simple, but it's actually difficult to get the timing right," he says. It has many loyal fans, and is even served as part of the breakfast set menu. Apparently, some people get up early just to come and have this "ginger-fried pork that you'll want to eat even in the morning." The restaurant used to be open from 4 a.m. since its founding, but the management changed about nine years ago and the menu was revamped. Since adopting the current style, they say that the number of young customers, both men and women, coming on their way home from work has increased. "Dishes that people find troublesome to cook at home, such as fried foods and grilled fish, as well as home-style side dishes, are popular." It's a diner that is bustling with people looking for home-style cooking.

This fried chicken, with its popular spicy seasoning, comes with a set meal that includes rice, miso soup, and pickles, as well as a large and small side dish that changes daily. The rice is from Yamagata Prefecture.

Breakfast sets are available only on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 8:00 to 10:00. There are three options: ham and eggs, grilled salmon, and ginger pork. Each comes with rice, miso soup, and pickles.

Wanpaku Shokudo (a restaurant specializing in playful and energetic children)
"Wanpaku Shokudo" is run by owner Hiroaki Ohashi all by himself. If you look closely at the sign, below the shop name it says "A shop that serves ginger pork, fried chicken, and hamburgers," and the fact that this is actually the entire menu is incredibly refreshing. The reason for carefully selecting the menu is very simple: "Because these are definitely among the top dishes that everyone loves," which makes perfect sense.
What all three dishes have in common is that they use homemade salt koji and soy sauce koji in their preparation and cooking. They use each in different ways to bring out the flavor and tenderness of the meat. The set meals come with rice, miso soup, and homemade pickles. The rice used is "Hitomebore," and they only source the best quality domestic rice of the season. The restaurant started with three types of set meals, but this spring they added chicken nanban to the menu. The new menu was decided after listening to requests from regular customers. Mr. Ohashi's motto, which conveys a sense of closeness with his customers, is "to make your heart and stomach happy." True to his word, you are sure to be happy with the delicious food and enjoyable conversation.

The hamburger steak, with its fragrant, grilled exterior, is so tender it falls apart with chopsticks. There are three sauces to choose from: demi-glace, grated daikon radish and ponzu sauce, and for an extra 300 yen, you can add seared cheese.

Chicken Nanban served with homemade sweet and sour sauce and tartar sauce made with homemade pickles. I was impressed by the moist and tender chicken breast.

Yushokuya Raku
This reliable restaurant serves set meals until 10 PM. As it's part of the same group as the popular "Ajiyasu" set meal restaurant which opens early in the morning, you can be sure of the taste. They are particular about using domestically sourced ingredients, and they use Koshihikari rice. The regular set meals offer a good balance of meat, fish, and vegetables, and they also have a daily special, making it a difficult choice.
The spacious interior offers table seating, raised seating areas, and sunken seating, making it flexible enough for families, small groups, and banquets, and private rooms are also available. The counter seats are spaced far enough apart, making it a great place to relax alone. Some people use it as an izakaya (Japanese pub) to enjoy a variety of à la carte dishes and the manager's carefully selected sake. On the other hand, they also offer children's meals and omurice (omelet rice), so it's also recommended for those who want a family restaurant-like experience. Its versatility and ease of use for a wide range of occasions are also attractive features.

This dish, made with the restaurant's own blend of miso and subtly flavored with shichimi (Japanese seven-spice blend), is perfect with rice. Served with a small side dish, pickles, and miso soup.

The pickled fish, slowly grilled over low heat, is a treat with the sweetness of sake lees and the fragrant aroma of the skin. Served with rice, a small side dish, pickles, miso soup, and chilled tofu.
