What is Jiguchi Andon?
Senju has a history of being a post town, but did you know that there are crafts that have been handed down since the Edo period? Yes, it is an ema shop in Senju 4-chome. Hand-painted ema are rare in Japan. "Senju Ema" and "Jiguchi Andon" currently produced by the 8th generation are almost inherited from the Edo period in terms of techniques and materials. They look beautiful and even new in the present day. (You can buy them.)
Jiguchi-andon is a paper-covered lamp stand on which a unique picture attached to the pun are drawn. At the workshop, we will make this miniature andon. Why don't you enjoy making your own Jiguchi Andon while learning about the local culture? Both adults and children are welcome. Children are also recommended for free research during summer vacation!

① Morning session 10:00-12:30 ② Afternoon session 15:00-17:30
[Place] Senju 4-chome Hikawa-jinja Shrine office (2nd floor) 4-31-3 Senju, Adachi-ku
[Participation fee] 1,000 yen (including material cost, with mini paint set)
[Capacity] 10 people each in the morning and afternoon (first-come-first-served basis)
[Application deadline] Monday July 31
